A man in Hangzhou bought a whole unit in the residential building where his parents live, after neighbors rejected his request to build an elevator, qjwb.com.cn reports.

The man, surnamed Li, said his mom had just undergone leg surgery, and it was inconvenient for her to climb the stairs to her home on the fifth floor.

The son thus spent hundreds of thousands of yuan to build an elevator at the unit where his parents live. But when the construction was completed, some of the neighbors strongly rejected it, saying it did not conform to the promised layout plan.

A neighbor requested that he either dismantle the elevator, or buy the whole unit.

To everyone's surprise, the son spent several million yuan in total to buy up the unit with a price higher than the market average.

The son's behavior has been overwhelmingly praised by netizens, many of them say the caring son has reversed stereotypes about "Tuhao," or vulgar rich, believing that it is always good to treat one's parents with filial respect.
